Combinations of Transformations

The three basic transformations that can be applied to a shape are as follows:

 

1. Translation

A translation moves or slides an image. The image can be translated up or down, right or left.

2. Reflection

A reflection flips a shape over to create a mirror image.

 

Reflection is a transformation in which a geometric figure is reflected across a line, creating a mirror image.

3. Rotation

A rotation turns a shape.

Rotation is a transformation in which a figure is turned about a fixed point. Rotation can be clockwise or anticlockwise.
