Decimal Place Values Part 1

Value of a digit in a number is the value it holds to be at the place in the number.

For example: Consider the number 123.56.

Let's find the values of the digits 2 and 6.

The number 123.56 can be written in the place value chart as:

 

Hundreds Tens Ones . Tenths Hundredths
1 2 3 . 5 6


The value of the digit 2 is 2 tens or 20.

The value of the digit 6 is 6 hundredths or 0.06.
