The range of a set of numbers is the difference between the largest and the smallest number in the set.

 

For example: Consider the group of numbers {5, 4, 5, 6, 4}.


This data can be arranged in ascending order as:
4, 4, 5, 5, 6

 

Largest number in this group = 6
Smallest number in this group = 4

 

Range = Largest number – Smallest number = 6 – 4 = 2
