Subtracting Mixed Time
Steps to subtract days and hours:
1. If the number of hours being subtracted is more, then decrease the days by 1 and increase the hours by 24.
(Since, 1 day = 24 hours)
2. Subtract the days.
3. Subtract the hours.
For example: Let's subtract:
39 days 21 hours – 15 days 23 hours = ?
Notice that, we cannot subtract 23 hours from 21 hours.
So, decrease the days by 1 and increase the hours by 24:
39 days – 1 day = 38 days
21 hours + 24 hours = 45 hours
So, 39 days 21 hours – 15 days 23 hours = 38 days 45 hours – 15 days 23 hours
Now, subtract the days.
38 days – 15 days = 23 days
Now, subtract the hours.
45 hours – 23 hours = 22 hours
So, 39 days 21 hours – 15 days 23 hours = 23 days 22 hours.
