Multiplication Strategies (Using doubles)
Using doubles, we can easily multiply a given number by 2, 4, and 8.
a) Two times a number is the double of the number.
b) Four is double of two. So, four times a number is that number doubled twice.
c) Eight is double of four and four is double of two. So, eight is the double of the double of two. So, eight times a number is the result of doubling a number thrice.
For example: Let's find the product 4 × 2.
4 × 2 = 2 doubled twice
So, to find 4 × 2, first find 2 × 2.
2 × 2 = Double of 2 = 2 + 2 = 4
Now, to find 4 × 2, double 4.
Double of 4 = 4 + 4 = 8
So, 4 × 2 = 2 doubled twice = 8.
